CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

These look very impressive, better than the ones here!

Christmas Lights 09

Clun Christmas Lights were officially switched on last night after some delay.   One of the residents, who had kindly offered to supply the electricy fror the tree lights from his house, was, unfortunately stuck in traffic.  Some considerable time later after much carol singing and partacking of mulled wine and mince pies, kindly supplied by the White Horse Inn, they finally came on and a grand night out was had by all.

Remember the Castle like this?

It seems a dim and very distant memory and for at least 3 years it has looked like this…..

The Latest news is that English Heritage need to carry out further work to the external and internal faces of the keep and tell us that due to the current financial climate they have no resources available until next Spring/Summer. Apparently it makes more financial sense for them to leave the scaffolding up until they have carried out the work next year than to take it down and put it up again so it looks like we are potentially stuck with it for another 6 months!

Our Castle deserves better! Visitors constantly comment “Nice Castle, shame about the scaffolding”.  None of this is doing local tourism any favours and many people visiting our Clun Carnival or Green Man Festival are disappointed to find it shrouded in scaffolding.

Three years is long enough and perhaps its time to excerpt further pressure on English Heritage to get something done and reclaim our Castle!

Clun Heritage Trail

For those of you with an hour and a half to kill there is a rather interesting heritage trail around Clun. There is a guide available in several outlets in Clun but it can also be downloaded free in PDF format which I have included below. Just click on the image. There are some rather interesting bronze sculptures of Joe the Bear and Billy Cantie in Trinity Gardens and also of  Bill Lock in Clun Museum by talented local sculptress Gemma Pearson

Corndon

A few pics my daughter took on Corndon last year just because I like them. Click the link to view slideshow

The First Edition of Stepping Back in Time

I was very pleased to see the attached Article by Alan Hurley which was printed in the November edition of the Clun Chronicle.  All of the articles and photos within the book were submitted by Jean Withers but the whole thing was put together by Sarah at Enterprise House who spent many patient hours deliberating over the layout and overall design (along with Jeans input of course).  Congratulations Sarah on an excellent job! Ready for the next edition?

Stepping back in Time in Clun

Beautiful Bentley!

Hugely exciting when a vintage 1928 Bentley broke down briefly Church Street last Sunday….luckily we were on hand with a camera and were able to grab a shot before he swiftly dealt with the problem and drove off!

WB_MAR20_Ins2Button_245Jack and Hannah from The White Horse Inn have finally tied the knot after err..not sure how many years.  The Sun arrived especially for them (perhaps old Greenie had something to do with it!) so I am sure everyone in Clun would like to join me in wishing them all the very best for the future.
